What is the best thickness for edge banding?

The size of pvc edge banding you should use depends on the thickness of the edge to be covered. PVC Edge banding is typically available in thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm to 3mm. The most common thicknesses are 1mm and 1.5mm pvc edge banding .

Here are some general guidelines:

• For edges with a thickness of less than 12mm, use a 1mm pvc edge banding.
• For edges with a thickness of 12-18mm, use a 1.5mm pvc edge banding.
• For edges with a thickness of more than 18mm, use a thicker edge banding, such as 2mm pvc edge banding or 3mm edge banding, to ensure adequate coverage and a seamless finish.

It's important to measure the exact thickness of the edge before purchasing pvc edge banding to ensure a proper fit. Keep in mind that some pvc edgeband is designed to be folded and bonded to both sides of the edge for added strength and stability.

How to apply edge banding?

Here are the steps to on how to apply pvc edge banding:

• Cut the pvc edge banding to size, leaving a slight overhang on both ends.
• Clean the edge of the furniture piece to remove any dirt or debris.
• Apply glue or heat-activated adhesive to the edge of the furniture piece.
• Place the PVC edge banding on the edge, aligning the overhanging ends and ensuring that the strip is straight.
• Use a trimming tool to cut off the overhanging ends of the pvc edge banding.
• Use a belt sander or edge-banding trimmer to smooth and trim the pvc edge banding, removing any excess glue and ensuring a seamless, flush finish.
• Sand the pvc edgeband with fine-grit sandpaper to remove any visible glue lines or rough spots.
